Many people are under the impression that the only way to address physical and mental health problems is through medication or surgery. In fact, stress and lifestyle issues underlie many physical and mental health problems and can be effectively managed non-pharmaceutically.  Moreover, as David Wilkerson, author of Anatomy of an Epidemic has documented, long term use of medication can contribute to further physical and mental health difficulties. Whether you are dealing with mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, or PTSD; struggling with cognitive problems such from traumatic brain injury, dementias or learning disorders or dealing with stress related physical problems such as chronic pain, hypertension, chronic fatigue, insomnia, or gastrointestinal problems; non pharmacological approaches can be effective in helping you manage and reduce symptoms. Our approach is educational.

We partner with you to set your goals and priorities, as well as to help you identify and access resources. We strive to help you master skills that empower you to maintain a healthier life style and promote improved functioning.

Dr. Bruce Bassi, MD, MS

I have treated thousands of individuals with various mental and medical illnesses, and have a wealth of experience in this field. I enjoy spending time to get to know my patients and seeing their mental health improve, which is why I went into the field. Doing telepsychiatry allows me to deliver quality care, and allows you to enjoy the convenience of seeing a doctor wherever you please. Understandably, choosing a doctor is a very difficult choice! For this reason, I’ve made some videos for you to get to know me and my approach to medicine better. I consider my main strength to be that I listen to my patients concerns, and then educate them so that we can develop a treatment plan together. We will identify your goals, and then work hard, together, to reach those goals. My treatment approach does not revolve around medications or therapy, but revolves around educating you about options. There are many treatment options in the field of psychiatry, and it can be difficult to predict the risks and benefits of each. I will help you understand what medication options might be a good fit for you, given their various side effect profiles. I will also introduce you to some non-medicaiton options, such as biofeedback, tDCS, TMS, or ECT, which can be very effective. Another option is doing regular therapy. There are many different types of therapy, but basically the idea of therapy is to give you more insight into why you think certain thoughts, and then retraining your brain to think about yourself differently.
